CHANEL 583 "TABOO"

Before I begin, I would like to thank all the visitors who chime in with their comments. I have been receiving positive comments about the blog and that certainly motivates, but more than anything, what drives me to keep it up, is the fact that I can see the traffic and how it originates via the blog's analytics. Last Month I posted a small poll widget on the blog to see how many visitors were men. No surprise here, at least as far as the people who cared to put their two cents worth, 95% of visitors are male, just 5% are female. Of course those numbers will change, but the majority of visitors who voted, showed me that they wanted to interact. This blog has seen more than 10,000 visitors since it was created, and that is also a growing trend, so I see there is interest on the subject. Last but not least, the question’s and comments as well as the emails I receive show me this is not just a growing trend, it seems many men have been painting their toes for a very long time, they just don’t show them, so If I can put my two cents worth to help men shatter their fear and show their emotions and expressions thru nail polish, I will keep at it.

Purple, the color of royalty. There is something empowering about wearing this color. Since I am a Professional Photographer I see color a bit differently than most people. With my left side of the brain I see color as the reflection of light on different surfaces. Black is the absence of light, while white is the combination of all primary colors. It is my right side of the brain, that makes me feel the emotion that color brings out in me. It makes it even more enjoyable to appreciate colors when you understand and feel them at the same time. CHANEL does a fantastic job at combining different colors to create emotion when looking at their nail polishes.
With “Taboo” they have created, at least in my personal view, a very EMOTIONAL color. This to me is a POWERFUL shade. The base is a magenta and blue combination that turns out a beautiful deep cosmic violet shade. The kind you see on the Hubble telescope galaxy pictures. To top it all, they added bright red and blue sparkles that shimmer beautifully when the sun hits them, reinforcing even more the cosmic premise. I look at my nails and imagine small galaxies on each nail.
Under ambient lighting, it takes on a deeper purple, more absent of color, even though it looks nice enough, you will appreciate this more outside than indoors. This is by far, the best shade of purple I have tried, it is elegant, mysterious, edgy and classy at the same time. If you are a spiritual person, you will absolutely love this shade, it will help open awareness.
As with the other CHANEL colors I have tried, the formula is perfect, two coats will do, and it goes on smoothy. I love purple nail polish because it goes with just about everything, from blue jeans, to white pants, and it goes very nicely with  brown, gold, silver or black sandals. This is a keeper for me, I am sure it will be for you too.

  1. Awesome post, and I thank you!

Looks like a great purple, and that's been me favorite color since I was a child. Have some nice polishes in that hue, but this looks as if it would blow them out of the water!

  2. Every time I wear a colour called "Deep Amethyst" (by Saavy), I get all kinds of very positive comments from both men & women. Purple seems to be a very rockin' colour! ;)

  4. I think this is soooo interesting gustavo. you're into color, as I'm into too as I'm primarily right brained, language not math so much, but for me it's the sociolologic sociolological viewpoint. that fascinsted me more than anything. yeah, I polish, so that makes me different by itself. no matter. I want to get at the heart of the male female thing and get back to real humanism. keep up the grest blogs my friend!!!! it does make a difference.

    1. Thanks for visiting and posting! You hit it right on the spot, WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS, we just have forgotten thru millennia, and we have let our own selves become segregating as a species, but we are getting back to our roots and things are changing. As humans, WE ARE CREATED OUT OF EMOTION, A VERY STRONG ONE (LOVE), Is it not contradictory that as men we have to suppress our emotional sides? Applying nail polish is an emotional form of self expression. Glad you liked the blog, and happy to know it makes a difference,.

  6. Love this blog. Have been wearing toe color since April (50ish suburban married guy). Started with nudes and faint pinks; have graduated to silvers, grays and a few blues. Have a muted whiteish/grey/silver on today and it simply doesn't merit a second look from anyone. Please keep your blog going!

  8. Thank for stopping by and leaving your comment Jim! Glad to know the blog makes a difference and leaves a positive mark on people. Thru the years, I have noticed that really, there are no second looks, aside from a few people that have been too obvious, maybe 2 or 3 in the last five years, nobody cares really. I have travelled, and even out of my local place of residence I have gotten no harassment of bad comments. It is on in our minds. It is quite the contrary, I have gotten compliments by women who love it and by men who admire the courage.

  9. I do it because I like it but a compliment would be fun. We''ll see. I certainly have gotten encouragement at the nail salons I've gone to but they have come to recognize me and I try to tip well so they're always suggesting more services--as they should. I seem to be an oddity there though. (Haven't gotten very good at doing my own toes and the pros do it quite well). It was quite difficult at first to walk in and ask for color but it's getting easier.

  11. Hey, I ordered this color about three or four weeks before you posted about it. I absolutely love it because its has such a royal, mysterious and masculine effect. I have been wearing polish for some years now, but I've really never worn anything but black. Now I am expanding my comfort zone. This blog is very inspiring because I am encouraged by seeing other (heterosexual) men (like yourself) who are not afraid to be individuals (rather than part of the collective). People are so quick to be judgmental of men who refuse to be put in a category, and in most cases they automatically place them in an unflattering light. Thanks for encouraging blog my friend!

    1. Manny, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your kind words! I could not agree more with your comment. That color is stunning to say the least. I also agree with your comments that more men are loosing their fear and venturing out to the unknown with different colors. There are some pretty cool dark colors out there that you can try, like deep dark reds, rich dark blues, dark olive greens and so much more. I also used to wear black for long periods of time until I got bored and started to look for some more colors and that is when I got it. It is all about choice of color. I have said it before and I will say it again, Nail Polish, you either get it, or you don't. And you don't have to be a female to enjoy it.

  13. I only wear french tips and clears as well as nudes and light pinks. Ive worn more bold colors but in honesty, i dont think it looks that great on me personally. Ive worn neon pink to black and i rather have the aforementions. I also wear a big toering. Very masculine lool and i receive compliments and stares regularly. They notice the silver ring first and then the shiny toes next. Ive been told, i have great toes by attractive women. :)
